Who We Are

The City & Hackney Recovery Service is a service for residents struggling with alcohol and substance use issues.

Drop-in assessment clinics

The project is commissioned by Hackney and City councils and is delivered by Turning Point, London Friend and Mind CHWF. We’re happy to say that we’ve already supported over 3,000 residents on their recovery journey in the last 12 months.

This is a safe space for any individual who feels they would benefit from support with their substance or alcohol use. All are welcome on a first come first serve basis unless an appointment is given, no referral necessary.

Monday

Assessment open access times: 10:00am - 3:00pm – Face to face at Mare Street (No appointment needed)

Evening assessment clinic: 5:00 -7:00pm - Face to face – by appointment only, please ring 0345 144 0050 to enquire.

Tuesday

Assessment open access times: 12:30 – 3:00pm - Face to face at Mare Street (No appointment needed)

Wednesday

Remote assessments: 10:00am - 3:00pm – by remote appointment only, please ring 0345 144 0050 to enquire.

How We Support You

What we offer

We are specialist medical staff and psychotherapists and dedicated recovery workers who support all residents of Hackney and the City including the BAME and LGBTQA+ communities. In addition, we also help those in the criminal justice system and rough sleepers. Whether you are a professional wanting to help a client; worried about your own use; or if it is someone you care about - we can help.

Our dedicated, caring team have the local expertise and knowledge to help you get control of your drinking and/or substance use.  We can offer home or community visits if needed and can link in with other experts and local organisations to help with your situation. Every recovery journey is different, so our solutions are tailored to each client. Our team will regularly check in to keep you motivated and help you gain control of your recovery journey.

Sexual Health & Chemsex

City & Hackney Integrated Substance Use Service are working in partnership with The Clifden Sexual Health Clinic – Homerton Hospital and Antidote to support clients who need advice and guidance around chemsex.

NSPdirect - Needle Exchange Delivered

Needle Exchange equipment can now be delivered to you completely free of charge by ordering online directly from our supplier, Exchange Supplies. You can order needle exchange equipment, including naloxone and foil, to help you stay safe.

You can simply order through the link here, by giving your postcode and choosing the equipment you would like to order. This equipment will then be delivered to the address you provided in discreet packaging.

Preventing Overdose

To help reduce drug-related deaths we provide free overdose response Naloxone kits to people at risk of an opioid overdose, their family and friends, and members of the public who could help prevent an overdose.

Naloxone is a medication that can quickly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, including those related to heroin, methadone, morphine, buprenorphine, codeine and synthetic opioids, like nitazenes and fentanyl. Referrals to us

Professional Training

Our experts train other professionals wanting to find out more about problem drinking and types of drug use. You could be a:

• GP or practice manager
• Health care professional
• Social worker
• Teacher or head teacher
• Housing officer
• HR officer
• Police or security officer

Finding out about the issues surrounding problem drinking and drug taking could help you be more effective in your work.

Groups

Groups are running either in person or online via zoom. Talk to your keyworker if you would like to attend one of these groups and for more details on timings and how to join.

• Introduction to Change (ITC) - A four week programme designed to give you an idea of what a group work programme maybe like, helping you to think about your current situation and to make some decisions about your treatment goals.  The group will consist of a 90 minute session once a week for four weeks.

• Alcohol Resolution Clinic - Learn tools and techniques to help manage cravings and mood in this eight week course.

• Managing Alcohol Programme - Drinking at dependent levels? Get support in preparing for an alcohol detox and learn how to reduce your alcohol safely.

• Recovery Skills - learn skills to reduce your substance use and to manage difficult thoughts and feelings. These skills will also help with anxiety and low mood.

• Reclaim - This 6-week workshop will provide support to stop using substances and manage cravings, including cannabis, cocaine, amphetamines, Spice, Steroids and Ketamine.

• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy – This course will help with your overall wellbeing on your recovery journey and go towards you to understand your emotions and feelings when going through change.

• Radical Self-care – This course recognises that sometimes you can be overwhelmed by negative feelings about yourself and this can lead to unclear thinking. This course helps you understand this and become a better friend to yourself.

• Managing Anger and Difficult Emotions – This course helps you understand the neuroscience of anger/intense emotions and how to reduce emotional suffering by learning and practicing mindfulness techniques.
