What is the Supporting Loss Toolkit?
This Toolkit is to help people bereaved following an alcohol, other drug or gambling related death, when the death is referred to the coroner in England and Wales.
It can be a great shock and a very difficult time when any death is referred to the coroner.
You can read more about why we have developed this Toolkit here:
Who can the Toolkit help?
The Supporting Loss Toolkit has been designed to help:
- Bereaved people understand and prepare for the coroner’s investigation.

How can the Toolkit can help you?
Most of us have not had experience of the coroner service. It can therefore feel unfamiliar, intimidating and complicated if you hear that the coroner is going to investigate the death after you have been bereaved. It can lead to anxiety and stress at an already difficult and emotional time.
You may find the Looking after yourself section of this Toolkit helpful. We have also included some suggestions for sources of further information and support that may be helpful.
