Whatever the reason for seeking support with your substance use, understanding the steps you’ll go through will make taking the
next one easier.
You might think you’re having one too many drinks a night. You might be having wider issues with your alcohol use. You might be using drugs and want to learn how to do this safely. No matter what you need, or where your head is at, we’ll be able to support you.
What to expect when you contact us
Step 1
For the first appointment we might call you or, if it’s a face-to-face meeting, you’ll walk into a welcoming building to be greeted by our experienced and friendly team.
Step 2
You’ll have an informal 30-minute chat with a member of the team to discuss your circumstances.
Our support workers often have lived experience of what you’re going through, so they’ll be understanding no matter your situation.
They’ll ask you questions about your substance use and what you’d like to get out of coming to Turning Point.
Step 3
Depending on what you need support with, we’ll do one of a few things.
- We might refer you to some online courses for support
- We’ll identify a support worker for you - that’s someone you can contact about your treatment
- We’ll look at what the best options are based on what you need. That might be information, detox, employment support, therapy or joining a group of like minded individuals to meet with on a regular basis
- Together we’ll agree a programme that feels manageable and achievable
How to get started
You can refer yourself to a local service.
All you need to do is fill in some basic details and we’ll call you back to go through your information and arrange an appointment with one of our team. Things might vary a bit depending on your location, but you’ll now have an idea of some of the typical things you can expect when you speak with us.
People make changes every day with Turning Point’s support, and you can too.
