The evidence-based employment model offers intensive, individually tailored support to help people find the right job, with high success rates. Here, we hear how Michael (name changed) accessed our IPS service and how finding employment while in recovery has changed his life.
Supporting Michael Back into Employment
When Michael was referred to the IPS service by his keyworker, he had been out of work for an extended period of time, causing him to fall behind on his rent payments and putting him at risk of losing his home.
He was also facing significant challenges that were impacting both his wellbeing and future prospects, but was keen to re-enter the world of work.
Building Confidence and Identifying Opportunities
We worked closely with Michael through one-to-one appointments to identify his employment goals, recognise his strengths and rebuild his confidence.
Alongside the personalised support offered to Michael, we also built relationships with local employers to identify suitable employment opportunities aligned with his potential. Once a role was identified that matched his skills, we supported Michael through the recruitment process, which ultimately resulted in a successful job offer.
During this time, the team also worked in partnership with housing services to ensure Michael received the wider support needed to address the challenges affecting his stability and wellbeing.
A Transformational Outcome
The outcome was transformational. Michael successfully secured paid employment and has now started in his new role. He has been able to begin addressing his rent arrears, reducing the risk of eviction and helping him maintain his tenancy.
As with all IPS support, the support continued into Michael’s new employment and beyond. We meet regularly with him and his employer to discuss progress, identify any challenges and make sure the right support is in place.
This collaborative approach is helping Michael settle into his role, further build his confidence and develop the skills he needs to sustain and thrive in employment.
Michael has reported that his new role has increased his confidence and wellbeing, as well as giving him a renewed sense of purpose.
I'm feeling more confident about the job now and happy about calling off the eviction. I am very happy and thank you for your support.
