Who We Are
Turning Point Leicester is a substance use service, here to meet the diverse needs of the city's residents and offer support for alcohol and drug use of any and all kinds.
We work with anyone affected by alcohol and/or drugs who would like support, whether that's to make lifestyle changes or because you're concerned over a friend, partner or family member. We offer a variety of treatment options and will support you to find the path that is best for you. Regardless of your age, we can help!
Our services are broad ranging and can be tailored to meet your specific needs. We support both adults and young people up to the age of 24. We can also work with you in any location that is suitable - you don't have visit us on Friar Lane to access support. We can meet at community venues, cafes, youth clubs, gyms etc. Follow our social media accounts to stay updated on where we'll be and when throughout the year.
Following inspection in 2018 as part of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland service, we were rated as Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission in January 2019.
How We Support You
What we offer
We support a wide range of different people who use alcohol and drugs such as ecstasy, cocaine, crack, cannabis, heroin, other opioid drugs, benzos and much more. Whatever your reason for getting in touch, you won’t be judged – many of us have been in your position before.
Our primary goal is to provide you with personalised care to address your specific needs, whether it is to be abstinent, gain back control, or to just improve your quality of life. One of our team will support you to build a treatment plan based on your circumstances. To get the best of our treatment options you will need to commit to attending the sessions.
Community Support and Outreach
Young People's Service
Our dedicated Young People’s team works with all under 18s and those aged up to 25 where required. Delivering services wherever suits you, our young people’s team can help you find out the facts about drugs and alcohol and make changes where you want to. We also support young people affected by someone else’s substance use.
Family & Friends Support
We know caring for someone with drug or alcohol issues can take its toll. That’s why our dedicated Family Recovery Worker offers support to family and friends in their own right. The individual with a drug or alcohol problem doesn’t need to be in treatment for you to be eligible for your own support.
Last Orders Project
Working with our partners Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland, the Last Orders Project helps those over 50 to learn more about their drinking and how it affects their life and make positive changes.

Fibro Scans
We offer everyone that comes to Turning Point the option to have their liver health checked with a FibroScan as well as holding community based clinics for members of the public. This service is particularly important if you currently (or used to) regularly drink more than the recommended 14 units of alcohol per week. If you're unsure how many units you drink in a week, try our alcohol quiz!
A FibroScan is a non-invasive ultrasound scan that measures scarring (fibrosis) and fatty changes (steatosis) in your liver because signs or symptoms of liver disease are not always identifiable.
All you need to to do to have a FibroScan, is avoid eating for three hours beforehand as this will affect your liver stiffness score results and make the scan less reliable. You can still take small sips of water and any prescribed medication. Please wear comfortable clothing which you can move to allow us to scan the right side of your ribcage. The scan will take just 5 - 10 minutes and we will be able to interpret the results and discuss these with you right away
To find out when our next community based FibroScan clinic is taking place, please follow our social media channels to keep updated on where we'll be and when.
