Who We Are

Bath & North East Somerset Drug & Alcohol Service is here to support you with options around your substance use. Whether you want to quit entirely, reduce your use, or learn how to be safer when using drugs, we can support you. We also provide support to those affected by someone else's substance use.

We take pride in offering a safe, inclusive, and easily accessible service for everyone. Whether you’re reaching out to a drug and alcohol service for the first time or are a regular visitor, you'll find it simple to access the resources, information, or treatment you need.

We support a wide range of different people who use alcohol and drugs such as ecstasy, cocaine, crack, cannabis, heroin and other opioids, and much more. Whatever your reason for getting in touch you won’t be judged, as many of us have been in your position before.

You’ll find a welcoming community, trustworthy information, and a safe space with people who share your experiences. We’re here to help you explore the support options available, making it easy for you to find what suits you best. Our services are confidential, free, and available to everyone in Bath and North East Somerset.

We treat each person as an individual with a unique set of needs and choices to make. Together we’ll agree a programme that feels manageable, achievable and entirely based on the choices you want to make for yourself. Here are some of the services we offer.

How can we support you?

Online and Group Support

Online Support

Our online tool My Turning Point provides 24/7 access to a range of guided and self-help sessions that can help with your drug and alcohol use, as well as emotional heath and other wellbeing subjects. Accessible on computers, tablet and some smartphones.

1 to 1 Support

We'll support you to learn how to regain control, cut down your alcohol use or stop altogether. We provide a range of options including medically assisted detox, group sessions, peer support and relapse prevention. Your Support Worker will work with you to a create a plan based on the choices you want to make to achieve your goals.

Group Support

We run a range of group-based interventions to support you to make positive changes alongside others who are having similar experiences. These include groups such as our Introduction to Change group to help you take the first steps in your recovery, or our Recovery Skills group to support you to develop the tools required to make lasting changes.

Peer Mentors

Our Peer Mentors are people who have struggled with drugs and alcohol themselves. Peer Mentors are experts by experience, who we have trained to share hope and inspiration with others. They can help empower you on your journey of positive change.

Detoxification and Rehabilitation

If you need to access drug and alcohol detoxification (detox) or rehabilitation (rehab) as part of your plan, the focus will be on improving physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing so your long-term recovery can be achieved.

We can either support you to access this whilst living at home or in a residential detox/rehab facility.

You will be supported to manage your withdrawal symptoms and will be supported to make positive changes in your everyday life.

Harm Reduction and Ongoing Support

Harm Reduction

We understand that some people may choose to continue using alcohol or drugs while seeking support from us. For some, quitting abruptly can be risky until they are ready, or they may require specialised treatment to stop safely. Not everyone aims to stop altogether, which is why we offer harm reduction resources to help you stay safe.

This includes workshops and education to give you the information you need to make informed choices about your substance use, testing, vaccination, and treatment for bloodborne viruses, and training and access to Naloxone, a medication that can quickly reverse an opioid overdose.

Needle & Syringe Provision

We provide sterile equipment to help reduce the risk of infection and the harm associated with injecting drugs, as well as to minimise the sharing of equipment. You can find Needle and Syringe Programs (NSP) at our hubs or in many pharmacies. Your Support Worker will also be happy to chat about your injecting needs. You can return any used equipment so we can safely dispose of it.

We offer a free online home delivery service called NSPdirect, provided by Exchange Supplies. With NSPdirect, you can order equipment online, and it will be delivered to your home within 24 to 48 hours. The packaging is discreet, with no markings or labels.

Mental Health

Many people we support with their substance use also face mental health challenges. We know that addressing these things separately won’t lead to lasting change. That’s why we have people who can support you if you’re dealing with both. We can also connect you with other organisations that provide mental health support while you’re using our services.

Lasting Recovery

Many of the people we support say that entering recovery is often the easier part but maintaining that recovery can be much more challenging. To help you succeed, we aim to build your resilience, address factors that may lead to setbacks, and create a self-sustaining recovery community that you can join if you choose. Here are just some of the activities we offer:

  • The 5 Ways to Wellbeing. This practical framework is designed to enhance mental health and overall wellbeing. It includes five evidence-based actions: Connect, Be Active, Keep Learning, Give, and Take Notice. By incorporating these actions into your daily life, you can improve your mental, emotional, and physical health, find balance, build resilience, and increase positive experiences.
  • Recovery Groups. In these groups, you will collaborate with others to support each other in maintaining recovery. We offer a variety of group programs that not only provide valuable resources but also connect you to others who have similar experiences.
  • Our Peer Mentors draw on their own life experiences to help others navigate their recovery journey. They bring a variety of skills and perspectives that can assist you in reaching your goals and staying focused.
  • Joining a Mutual Aid group can aid your behaviour change by connecting you with others who are also in recovery. Groups like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) provide support through shared experiences and guidance. If you decide to participate, we will help you find and access a Mutual Aid group.
  • We’re here beside you for as long as you need us. Our Recovery Check-ups include post-treatment review and feedback through scheduled motivational sessions. These sessions focus on understanding your overall well-being, offering support, encouragement, information, and advice to meet your needs, as well as reviewing your current recovery resources and identify areas for improvement.

Young People and Families

Young People

Our dedicated Young People’s team works with people aged under 18, delivering services wherever suits you. They can help you find out the facts about drugs and alcohol and make changes where you want to. We also support young people affected by someone else’s substance use.

Family Support

Friends and family can be a lifeline for someone who is struggling but supporting someone you care about can be difficult. Sometimes people need extra support for themselves as well as those around them. Access to education, resources, and coping strategies are just some of the ways we can provide support when you are concerned about how best to look out for someone.

Preventing Overdose

To help reduce drug-related deaths we provide free overdose response Naloxone kits to people at risk of an opioid overdose, their family and friends, and members of the public who could help prevent an overdose.

Naloxone is a medication that can quickly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, including those related to heroin, methadone, morphine, buprenorphine, codeine and synthetic opioids, like nitazenes and fentanyl. Order yourself a kit through our Naloxone Click & Deliver service and help save lives.
