Turning Point Responds to the Women's Health Strategy

Last week the government published an updated Women’s Health Strategy. Responding to the strategy, Nat Travis, Director of Operations at Turning Point said:

“The government’s renewed Women’s Health Strategy is an important step toward tackling the deep-rooted health inequalities women continue to face. Its commitment to listening to women and ensuring their experiences shape the care they receive is vital.

“The strategy’s focus on reducing smoking rates, expanding access to talking therapies, reducing alcohol-related harm and improved access to contraception and menopause support reflects challenges we see every day.

“We also welcome the strategy’s recognition of the challenges facing women with complex needs, for example the fact that nine in ten women who are sleeping rough live with serious mental illness. Many women face additional barriers when seeking support for substance use, which is why our services offer trauma-informed services designed to feel secure and improve access. Addressing these overlapping needs in a joined-up way is essential to improving outcomes.

“Taken together with initiatives such as the Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy, this renewed focus signals meaningful progress for women’s health and wellbeing. Turning Point will continue working with government, the NHS and third sector partners to ensure women receive the support they need to live healthier, safer lives.”
