Turning Point respond to government announcement on new independent review on mental health, autism and ADHD services

Responding to the government’s announcement of a new independent review which will examine how the health system currently delivers mental health, autism and ADHD services to help ensure children and adults can get the right support, Turning Point chief executive, Julie Bass, said:

“We welcome the government’s announcement of an independent review into mental health, autism and ADHD services.

“At Turning Point, we see every day how mental health, autism and ADHD can often overlap, creating barriers to timely and appropriate support. Many people struggling with substance use have co-occurring mental health issues, and neurodivergence among this cohort is common. Many people with a learning disability have mental health needs and challenges relating to ADHD and autism. Too often those with the most complex needs fall through the gaps in fragmented systems.

“We know that early intervention is key, but we also need services that recognise the reality of co-occurring needs. This review must consider how to build a system that works for people with multiple and complex challenges, informed by evidence and by the voices of those with lived experience. Organisations must work collaboratively to improve access to support and provide a cohesive, joined up approach that is easy to navigate."
