We are incredibly pleased the government has announced it will be inviting more black men aged 45 to 74 for prostate cancer checks as part of an ongoing trial in the UK to find better ways of testing for the disease.
Following the release of SASH's prostate cancer awareness film, Your Health is Your Wealth, earlier this year (which centred the experiences of people from African and/or Caribbean heritage affected by prostate cancer), we understand just how critical initiatives like this are in tackling longstanding inequalities in awareness, early diagnosis and outcomes.
This trial represents an important step forward in ensuring that those most at risk are given greater access to potentially life-saving checks, reinforcing the need for continued and targeted engagement with communities who have historically been underserved.
