Rebuilding relationships and finding personal strength: Jodie's Story

The next incredible journey and person we would like to shine a spotlight on is Jodie, supported at Leicestershire & Rutland substance use service.

Jodie was recognised for her exceptional transformation she achieved after discovering she was pregnant in 2023.

Jodie has shined a bright light for those around her, with staff at Leicestershire and Rutland’s service saying that Jodie has showcased incredible determination and commitment to taking positive steps forward after using substances.

Jodie’s journey has been one of overcoming adversity, rebuilding relationships and finding her own strength as a mother.

Jodie was nominated for an Inspired by Possibility Award by Turning Point staff as her growth uplifted those around her.

After collecting her award at Turning Point’s seventh annual Inspired by Possibility Awards, she revealed that her hope for the future is to become a peer mentor at Turning Point, showing her caring nature for others and offering support for people who have had similar experiences to herself. Jodie was joined by her proud mother, who stood next to her when having her picture taken after receiving the Inspired by Possibility Award.

Charlene Robinson, advanced recovery practitioner at Turning Point’s Leicestershire & Rutland substance use service, said:

“Since starting her recovery journey, Jodie has taken the courageous step of engaging with local community recovery groups. Her progress has been nothing short of inspiring.

“Her hope for the future, her commitment to her recovery and her desire to support others shows the strength and resilience she has developed.”

Turning Point chief executive, Julie Bass, paid tribute to the award winners, saying:

“This is the seventh year we have run this recognition scheme to celebrate and share the wide range of inspirational achievements, accomplishments and contributions of the people we support.

“We know how important it is to celebrate their remarkable stories of strength and resilience to engage in change, particularly when they are faced with a number of challenges and difficulties.

“It's not just me that finds it motivating, energising, and inspiring to hear all of the stories, it's all of our colleagues, nearly 5,000, up and down the country, as well.

“We support over 200,000 people every year, so to be picked out from such a large population of people is an astonishing achievement. Well done to everyone who has won an award today.”
