Celebrating Precious' story of progress and resilience

Meet Precious, supported at Douglas House, one of Turning Point’s Mental Health services in Manchester.

Among the wonderful winners of our seventh Inspired by Possibility awards was Precious, supported at Douglas House, Turning Point’s independent mental health hospital in Didsbury.

Precious was recognised for his incredible progress, resilience, and dedication to his personal growth.

Since joining Douglas House ten months ago, staff said Precious had made remarkable strides in building confidence, engaging with others, and improving his overall wellbeing.

They praised his journey from isolation to actively participating in conversations, joining the gym, and prioritising self-care. He has embraced positive changes and shown strong motivation and commitment to leading a healthier and happier lifestyle.

Hannah, a senior nurse at Douglas House, nominated Precious for the award. She said:

“Despite challenges, Precious has demonstrated remarkable strength in communicating his needs and working towards his goals.

“He is now preparing for the next steps in his journey, and his achievements deserve to be celebrated.”

Turning Point chief executive, Julie Bass, celebrated the award winners, saying:

“This is the seventh year we have run this recognition scheme to celebrate and share the wide range of inspirational achievements, accomplishments and contributions of the people we support.

“We know how important it is to celebrate their remarkable stories of strength and resilience to engage in change, particularly when they are faced with a number of challenges and difficulties.

“It's not just me that finds it motivating, energising, and inspiring to hear all of the stories, it's all of our colleagues, nearly 5,000, up and down the country, as well.

“We support over 200,000 people every year, so to be picked out from such a large population of people is an astonishing achievement. Well done to everyone who has won an award today.”

Award winners were recognised from Turning Point services from around the country, such as drug and alcohol services in London, Herefordshire, Leicester, Slough and Somerset. Mental health services in Nottingham, Kensington & Chelsea, Manchester and Stafford. And learning disability services in Cheltenham, Oldham, Sheffield, Watford and Kent.
