Turning Point responds to the Chancellor's budget statement

Today, Chancellor Rachael Reeves set out the government’s budget in the 2024 Autumn Statement.

Responding to the announcement, Julie Bass, Chief Executive at Turning Point, said:

“We welcome the Chancellor’s commitment to increase NHS spending and the funding boost for social care.

“We support the government’s focus on improving pay and conditions for the lowest paid. However, it is vital that government considers the impact that this, along with the increase in employer national insurance contributions, will place on organisations providing public services.

“The £26 million for new mental health crisis centres provides much needed investment for people in crisis and will help to reduce pressure on A&E. It is also promising to see £233 million of additional spending to prevent homelessness which will contribute towards supporting society’s most vulnerable.”
