Homes and Housing

Having the right home is fundamental to good health and wellbeing. It's the place where we feel safe, secure and can really be ourselves.

We understand that a stable and sustainable home is the beginning and enduring foundation of a better and more independent life.

A home enables us to be part of wider communities and supports the relationships that create many of our most treasured experiences and memories. This is why we provide a range of supported housing choices.  These are designed to be permanent homes or as transitionary personal spaces where people can look ahead to where they want to go.

Housing at Turning Point

Our housing offer includes personalised support to help people be healthy and happy, and to live with as much self-determination as possible.   From leaving a family home for the first time through to  looking for a home in later life, we have a range of supported housing options that enable people to have control over their lives, to enjoy an excellent quality of life and to achieve their goals.

Do not be daunted by the choices available.
We can help navigate these so it is possible to confidently choose the right home, where the right support can be accessed at the right time.

Types of housing available

Supported Living

Supported living homes are typically rented under a tenancy agreement and are designed to be longer-term choices. People either live in a self-contained apartment, or a shared home where they have private space alongside shared communal spaces with their housemates.

The individualised care and support provided is designed to sustain or improve health and wellbeing. Each home offers either 24/7 on-site support or a hybrid of on-site and visiting support. The housing and support elements are also separate, allowing for independent provider changes. Supported Living services are registered with the Care Quality Commission where regulated personal care is provided.

Tenants are responsible for covering their daily living costs, including rent, service charge meals, and utilities. To help cover the costs, we support them in exploring income options like Housing Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance, and more.

Supported Accommodation

Supported accommodation is designed as a stepping stone to longer-term housing options, usually occupied under a licence agreement for a period of 6 months to 2 years. We provide both self-contained apartments and private rooms in shared homes.

During their time with us, support is provided under intensive assessment to understand and respond to individual strengths, support needs and life goals. We collaborate with each person to develop their individualised recovery, coping and enablement strategies to build daily living skills, allowing us to develop a supported move-on plan to longer-term housing options.

The personal care and accommodation elements of supported living are covered by separate agreements, with residents being responsible for their daily living costs and supported to explore a range of income options to help cover these. Supported Accommodation services are registered with the Care Quality Commission where regulated personal care is provided.

Residential Accommodation

Residential accommodation is a long-term home within a community, based suited to those who need access to 24/7 specialist support. It is often thought of as a step-up into more intensive support, as well as part of a step-down pathway to independence for people building confidence and skills to access less supported housing options.

Our residential support model is enabling and personalised. Residents can access several services that are permanently available on site, including support with personal care and the provision of meals. However, people are still supported to be as independent as possible in exercising choice and control, and to enjoy meaningful fulfilling lives.

The cost of some or all of housing, care and support at our residential homes is available through a local authority or NHS funding, with the housing and support elements being linked. All our residential services are registered with the Care Quality Commission to ensure they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

Bespoke Housing

Through our provision of the Homes Not Hospitals (Transforming Care) programme, we support people to move from secure hospital settings to live better lives in a community setting.

We support a journey of learning and managed transition to a home designed around each person's needs for independent living, either supported living or residential. We arrange for a property to be purchased, or built, and agree the best housing model to be adopted with funders, families and the person who will call it home, becoming the foundation for their independent living.

How to access our homes

Our homes support people living with mental health conditions, autism, learning disabilities and many are suitable for people with physical disabilities. They can be accessed by contacting the appropriate County Council or Unitary Council and enquiring about their referral routes. We ensure that each Local Authority has a current view of what homes are available.  The Local Authority will organise an assessment to ensure eligibility and to assist in selecting the housing option with the best matched support offer.
