Who We Are

The Recovery Lounge is a non-clinical safe space in Manchester city centre for those experiencing a mental health crisis.

It is staffed by a mixture of Recovery Workers and Peer Support Workers who can provide individually tailored emotional support and strengths-based problem solving. This support can be over the phone or in person, depending on your preference and needs.

Our person-centred approach to supporting you

About the service

We are specialised in supporting your journey to recovery.

"For over 25 years, our mission has been to get alongside those who find themselves in crisis. We aim to deliver person-centred mental health support with empathy, compassion and respect. Our goal is to empower individuals on their journey to recovery."

Anyone living in Manchester or under a Manchester GP can call and self-refer to our service on the day they want to come in. However, friends & family or other professionals can refer you as well.

When you call, we will ask for your personal details, GP details, and a brief summary of your current crisis. Unfortunately, we cannot support anyone that is under the influence of alcohol/substances, at risk of withdrawal, or expressing severe thoughts to harm others. Once we complete a referral form, we will schedule a time for you to attend or be called by one of our staff members.

When you attend, you will speak to an experienced, trained worker who will listen and support you to find solutions or options to help you move forward with what is happening in your life. It is often a relief to speak openly to someone you don’t know in confidence. The worker will be able to provide coping techniques for suicidal thoughts, self-harm, anxiety, low self-esteem, and many more. Additionally, the worker will be able to guide you to other community services you could access.

The worker may have to decide to share some information if they feel you or someone else is at risk of harm, and will discuss this with you.

You’re not alone on your journey. The friendly and understanding Turning Point team are here to support.

Distraction techniques
