Who We Are
A safe, confidential environment.
We work with individuals and families who are affected by substance use.
Beacon continues the legacy of Oasis Family Support, a service originally established by two families with lived experience who recognised the absence of existing support for friends and family affected by substance use.
The service is free and entirely non-judgemental, and you’re in control of the level and type of support that you’d like from us. We support adults, young people and children over the age of five.
How We Support You
Our support
Our aim is to equip you with the knowledge, tools and emotional resilience needed to navigate the impact of substance use and focus on your wellbeing.
We offer advice and guidance around any effects you may be experiencing including stress, anxiety, isolation and the impact to your mental or physical health, relationships and finances.
Throughout all of our support, we aim to help you to create resilience, gain a wider understanding of substance use and give practical, proven methods to help you to cope.
One-to-one sessions
Talk through how you’re feeling and put steps in place to manage the impact, both as an individual or as a family
Support groups or activities
Meet with others in person or online who share similar experiences to build a network of peer support
Bespoke support
Referrals to other support organisations and if applicable, arranging meetings with treatment providers, the person in treatment and yourself
What happens after a referral is made?
Once you’ve made a referral, our team will aim to get in touch with you within 5 days. We'll make contact with you using the preferred contact method you specified on your referral (if you asked for an email, please ensure you double check your junk email box too.)
We will discuss how we can best support you, and work through all of the options available. Following on from this initial contact, you will be allocated an experienced practitioner who will arrange further appointments to support you, assess your needs and develop an individualised plan to best suit your circumstances.
Please note, we will try to contact you three times following your referral, and if we don't manage to get in touch, we'll assume you no longer require our support.
Ways to get started
-
The 5-Step Method is a simple, brief way to access support. It focuses on you as an individual, rather than solely as your role as a supporter of the person using drugs or alcohol. It is held online, with evening and daytime options available.
-
The SMART friends and family programme invites you to spend time working on yourself and your goals, and ways to look after yourself. It consists of seven online sessions, in a supportive environment.
-
Whether you're a regular guest or new to peer support, our friendly, welcoming groups are open to all. Hosted in-person or online by one of our team, they give you the space to talk openly and honestly with people in similar situations to you. View our upcoming group dates, along with other available groups run by local support organisations.
Substance Cards
We’ve created a new series of substance information cards, designed to share clear, current information and reliable harm reduction advice to help keep you informed and safe.
The cards have been written by our expert teams and shaped by those with lived experience, meaning it’s advice you can trust.
