Turning Point respond to Health and Social Care Committee report on community mental health services

The report from the Health and Social Care Committee’s Inquiry into community mental health services includes a number of recommendations relating to implementation of the Community Mental Health Framework, roll-out of the 24/7 mental health centre pilots, digital integration and the need for stronger national leadership and accountability.

Responding to the report, Turning Point chief executive, Julie Bass, said today:

"Turning Point, along with other third sector providers, provided evidence to the Health and Social Care Committee's inquiry and I am pleased to see recognition of the important role played by Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) organisations in delivering integrated, person-centered care for people with severe mental illness. It is vital that VCFSE organisations are brought in as genuine partners by commissioners and NHS providers.

"We welcome broader recommendations made by the Committee relating to the need to move away from short-term commissioning cycles to multi-year contracts for VCFSE organisations and the importance of meaningful co-production, where power is shared and lived experience is valued."
