Criminal justice
Turning Point is a major provider of substance misuse services that operate within the Drug Interventions Programme (DIP), which is a key part of the Government's strategy for tackling drugs and reducing crime.
Introduced in 2003, with new elements having been phased in each year, the programme aims to get adult drug-misusing offenders out of crime and into treatment and other support.
DIP links pre-existing healthcare and drug treatment services and a range of other supporting and rehabilitative services across the criminal justice system.
The programme has introduced a case-management approach to offer treatment and support to offenders from the point of arrest to beyond sentencing. Sharing information on the treatment needs of individual offenders allows professional multi-skilled teams to provide tailored solutions.
Turning Point services work across all elements of DIP delivery which include:
- Arrest and court referral services
- Throughcare and aftercare in the community
- Resettlement from prison
- Drug Rehabilitation Requirement (DRR) partnerships
- Prolific and Priority Offender partnerships
Partnership working with the Police, National Probation Service and local Magistrate Courts are key for effective DIP delivery; and partnerships with local Drug and Alcohol Action Teams and local drug treatment providers are essential to offer the offender a package of care that addresses their substance misuse issues and reduces re-offending.
We provide DIPs across the country, and have a further range of service provision for offenders which includes accommodation and housing support, structured day programmes and assertive outreach for vulnerable offenders.
In addition we provide forensic mental health services and work with clients in our learning disability services who may have a forensic history.
