Overdose Awareness & Prevention

Naloxone Is For Everyone.

Help prevent opioid overdoses in Somerset by accessing free training and naloxone kits.

At SDAS we are helping to reduce drug-related deaths caused by accidental opioid overdose in Somerset. We provide free overdose prevention training and naloxone - a medication that can quickly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and save lives.

It is available to anyone in Somerset – whether you are at risk of an overdose yourself, or you are a family member, friend, professional or member of the public who could help prevent an overdose.

Carry Naloxone

Download the Carry Naloxone app to find locations, opening times and directions to naloxone suppliers in Somerset, and access useful information to recognise and respond to an overdose.

If you can’t access a naloxone supplier near you, order naloxone direct to your home with Naloxone Click & Deliver.

Promote Naloxone

57% of people offered naloxone accepted it, but the rate of people who carry it is lower at 20%.

Carry Naloxone began as a research project to address this statistic, exploring the barriers to people carrying naloxone and the ways to increase the number of people carrying naloxone in Somerset. The project was co-designed with individuals who use substances, to better identify the barriers to people carrying naloxone.

The Carry Naloxone app has been produced alongside campaign posters featuring a QR code that allows people to find their nearest naloxone supplier. Download the posters and display them in your community, business or service.

What are Opioids?

Opioids include prescribed medication (like morphine and codeine) or illicit drugs (like heroin). If too much is taken, or they are mixed with other depressant drugs (like benzodiazepines or alcohol) it can lead to an overdose.

As opioid deaths continue to increase, and concerns escalate about contamination of street heroin with highly potent synthetic opioids such as nitazenes – it is vital to always carry naloxone.
