Turning Point Response to Graham Allen Review on Early Intervention

In response to the Graham Allen Review on Early Intervention, published today, Turning Point's Chief Executive, Lord Victor Adebowale said;

"Turning Point recognises that providing children with support as early as possible will help them to develop the resilience needed in adulthood and therefore supports Graham Allen's review of early intervention. However, it is important to bear in mind that parents often need help too in order to provide the kind of loving, stable and supportive home environment that children need.

"Early intervention should come in the form of services designed in conjunction with the community which are accessible, and is therefore applicable to both adults and children.   What links this together is the broad definition of prevention. Personal challenges such as substance misuse and mental health difficulties should be prevented from getting worse and personal challenges should be prevented from occurring in the first place. It is only with this dual approach which focuses on both children and adults that early intervention can achieve its potential."
