In response to the Government's Drugs Strategy Annual Review 'Delivering within a new Landscape', Selina Douglas, Turning Point's Managing Director for Substance Misuse and Offending said:

"Turning Point has been delivering recovery focused substance misuse services for nearly 50 years, and we welcome the Government's recommitment to a recovery focused treatment system.

As the Review identifies, people with drug dependency often have a variety of complex needs including mental health issues, unemployment, a history of offending or suffer from domestic violence. Now that drug and alcohol services sit within the public health system, and through the introduction of Health and Wellbeing Boards, we have a unique opportunity to design and deliver services that meet individuals' whole needs to help achieve and sustain recovery.

It is therefore vitally important that local authorities continue the investment in substance misuse services, including a focus on early intervention, if we are to maximise the public health benefits substance misuse interventions can bring to individuals and communities."
