Turning Point responds to the Government’s alcohol consultation

In response to the Government's alcohol consultation released today, Selina Douglas, Turning Point's Director of Substance Misuse Services said;

"It is positive that the government is taking the issue of alcohol misuse seriously. However, simply fixing a minimum alcohol unit price will not be enough to affect the high price we are paying in this country due to alcohol misuse.

We need to ensure that the right education and support is there for individuals and families. Alongside this, we need the NHS to provide more services to identify problem drinking at an earlier stage. We know from the support we provide in Gateshead A and E that patients benefit from brief alcohol intervention services in hospitals and continuing with and improving this type of service is key. We welcome the focus that a minimum alcohol unit price will bring to the issue of alcohol misuse more generally."
