Turning Point responds to cuts in funding to mental health trusts in England

In response to the news report that mental health trusts in England have had their funding cut by more than 2% in real terms over the past two years, Felix Davies, Managing Director for Mental Health services at health and social care organisation, Turning Point, said;

"This is incredibly worrying news. It highlights the fact that despite the strides being made to address the issue, there is still not the necessary parity of esteem between mental and physical health. For instance, A&E services, in the face of increasing need, have been provided with an increase in funding to provide additional support.

The news that referrals to crisis and community mental health teams have risen by 16% in the same period clearly shows that the need is there. We cannot ignore this. We need to act to ensure that people who are in a mental health crisis are able to access the level of support they need, when they need it. Anything less than this is unacceptable."
