Turning Point launches Talking Therapies service in Wakefield District

News item posted: 05 September 2016

Today (1st September), Turning Point begins providing a new Talking Therapies service – formerly called Rightsteps – in the Wakefield District. People with common mental health issues such as low mood, anxiety and stress will have access to support free of charge, seven days a week.

A variety of group support, online support and one-to-one therapy options will ensure those who may need it are equipped with coping techniques to maintain their mental health.

In addition, new ‘talking shops’ based in Wakefield, Castleford and Hemsworth town centres will bring support to the heart of the community. As well as one-to-one therapy sessions, talking shops offer facilities such as PC/internet access and a library of self-help material.

Wellbeing Workshops and ‘My Turning Point’ – the online arm of the new service – offer self-help techniques and coping strategies to help people keep on top of their mental health. My Turning Point can be accessed through any online device, 24 hours a day, and allows people to work through therapy sessions at home in their own time. Therapists can provide feedback and support at regular intervals to help monitor and encourage progress, either through the online messaging system or optional face- to-face, telephone or webcam consultations.

Clare Wdowczyk, Therapist and Clinical Lead at Turning Point said: ‘We are very excited to launch the new service and hope it will be more accessible to people in the Wakefield District, enabling them to get help early.

‘As well as being open seven days a week, our new model of instant assessment is designed to be more accessible and reduce waiting times. From 1st September, there should be no delay from referral to assessment, ensuring people are not missing out on support when they may need it most.’

You can self-refer to the service and be assessed on the same day. To do so, call 01924 234 860 or visit our website at www.talking.turning-point.co.uk to make a referral online.
