Turning Point launches new Talking Therapies services across Derbyshire

News item posted: 17 March 2017

Following the success of Turning Point’s Talking Therapies service in Nottingham, help for low mood and stress from proven counselling approaches is extending to Derbyshire from Monday 7th November.

People will be supported through face-to-face therapy sessions, workshops, events and online tools.

Guided self-help and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) will ensure those who need it are equipped with coping techniques to maintain their mental health. People can also self-refer to the service by calling 0300 555 0456 any time between 9am and 4pm on Monday – Friday, or email derbyshire.talking@turning-point.co.uk. Evening appointments can be provided after referral.

‘My Turning Point’, the online arm of the new service, can be accessed through any online device, offering personal contact with therapists as well as interactive therapy content including diaries and skills exercises.

My Turning Point allows people to work through therapy sessions at home in their own time, whilst therapists can provide feedback and support at regular intervals to help monitor and encourage progress, either through the online messaging system or optional face- to-face, telephone or webcam consultations.

Allan Bednar, Turning Point’s National Clinical Therapies Lead said: ‘We are very excited to launch the new service. People will be able to access support in whichever way they feel comfortable, whether that be face-to-face, through the telephone, or online. Currently, we are pleased to say there are no waiting lists and are managing to provide people with the support they seek only one week after they contact us.

‘My Turning Point is more than just an online self-help tool – it is an interactive service that will equip users of the service with skills to maintain their mental health. By making our services available online as well as face-to-face, we are ensuring that people are not left without help when they may need it most.’
