Commenting on the rise in psychiatric patients attending A&E, Lord Victor Adebowale, Chief Executive of Turning Point said:

'People at risk of self harm and suicide need prevention and crisis services that are appropriate to their needs. A&E is too often the last resort and a police station cell is the unacceptable response of a system in crisis. It's a sign that we have not just got the funding wrong but also that the needs of the individual and community have been misunderstood.'
