In response to the Department of Health's announcement on the launch of integration pioneers, Lord Victor Adebowale, Chief Executive of Turning Point said;

"This commitment to greater integration is welcome. Turning Point has been calling for strategic action to address the gaps in health and social care for a long time, however, it must be accompanied by a commissioning model which is based on an in-depth understanding of community need.

Through Turning Point's work with people who have complex needs we know how easy it is for someone to fall through the gaps. With this in mind we designed our model of community-led commissioning, Connected Care, which involves working directly with commissioners and communities to co-design health and social care services that support the needs of the individual.

At the heart of integration is the knowledge that the distinction between health and social care does not mean anything to the patient; patients want excellent care that meets their individual needs. The launch of integration pioneers is an important step towards that."
