In response to Home Secretary Theresa May's speech to the Police Federation Annual Conference, Lord Victor Adebowale, Chief Executive of Turning Point and Chair of the Independent Commission on Mental Health and Policing said;

"It is great that the Home Secretary has acknowledged the Independent Commission on Mental Health and Policing report in her speech today.

I fully agree that the police are not medics; however, it is critical that the Home Secretary accepts that competent, effective policing cannot be done without officers having a full understanding of mental health. The families of those who have died deserve nothing less than this and the public deserve to have a safe, fully competent police response when they are in crisis. Anything less is unacceptable."
