Self Directed Support

Self Directed Support puts you in control of your own care - helping you live life the way you want. This means empowering you to make your own choices and allowing you to be as independent as possible.

Self Directed Support has different names, but one goal - to give you the power to take control of your life. It usually means you have much more control over the money used to pay for your support, whether it's through personal budgets or direct payments.

Whatever your circumstances, we'll help you make the most of your support. In some areas you can buy services directly from us. If you are already supported by Turning Point, we will help you choose how best to direct your funds.

A Personal Budget

If you need support, you could receive money from the local authority services. To get a personal budget you need to:

  • Know how much money you have available to support yourself
  • Be able to manage your money in a way you understand
  • Know what you need to get done with the money you receive.

An Individual Budget

This money can come from several places - including social services, the Independent Living Fund, and the government programme, Supporting People.

A Direct Payment

A direct payment is paid straight to you, allowing you to arrange your own support.
