Mental Health -what we think:
Turning Point believes all people with mental health problems should have the right to access services as soon as they need them to prevent their problems getting worse. We welcome the government’s continuing support for the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme which provides an opportunity to ensure that people get quick and easy access to talking therapies while delivering cost savings to Government.
People’s mental health is affected by a whole host of factors, including unemployment, debt, personal relationships, long-term conditions and/or chronic pain. Integrated services, promoting the recovery model are therefore essential if the needs of people with complex needs are to be met and they are to be supported to lead more independent and fulfilling lives.
Turning Point is a strong supporter of the recommendations made in the Bradley Review, particularly those relating to diversion for people with mental health conditions or a learning disability. As a member of the National Advisory Group on Offender Health, Turning Point is playing an active role in ensuring the recommendation s remain high on the political agenda. Turning Point advocates a service model that supports people with complex needs and dual diagnosis to live independent lives in an environment that is no more secure than is necessary and provides positive outcomes for individuals and the wider community.
