Mental Health -what we think:
We believe all people with mental health problems should have the right to access services as soon as they need them to prevent their problems getting worse. We promote the recovery model as the guiding principle for all mental health services because all services should make their client’s recovery, independence and wellbeing their top priority.
The Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme is a great opportunity to ensure that people get quick and easy access to talking therapy support. The Government should ensure that people can access support for all their needs through the programme. People’s mental health is affected by a whole host of factors, including unemployment, debt, personal relationships, long-term conditions and/or chronic pain. The service shouldn’t just be about therapy but about social care support to help people lead more independent and fulfilling lives.
We are calling on the Government to push forward with personalisation for everyone with a mental health problem - even for those with complex and serious needs – to make sure everyone can live independent lives in the right safe and secure environments that meet their needs and provide positive outcomes for individuals and the wider community.
