Community Commissioning

Connected Care is Turning Point’s award winning model of community engagement. By recruiting and training people to become Community Researchers, we equip them with the skills needed to engage with communities and patient groups. Through peer led research we establish what people need from public services and the changes required.

Connected Care not only connects people but harnesses local capacity to create lasting change; bridges the gap between health , social care and other services; and helps people to seek the right support at the right time.

To date, the Connected Care team have worked in 20 areas, recruited and trained over 250 community researchers and given 11,000 people a voice in the design and delivery of their local services. We have delivered bespoke projects with seldom held groups, city wide placed based change and fostered social action that continues long after the end of the project.

Outcomes of this work for commissioners include:

  • Efficiency savings
  • Reduced demands on A&E
  • Increased take up of existing community provision
  • Stringer partnerships between local providers, GPs and communities
  • More targets services for people with complex needs
  • Improved quality of life and more resilient communities
