Community Leadership Network

What is the Community Leadership Network?

The Community Leadership Network is a forum for our Community Researchers who want to be more involved in local projects and be the future champions for their community.

Funded by the Department of Health, the Community Leadership Network brings together individuals to share their experiences of working in the community and to strengthen their skills so that they can get more involved in shaping services and be a force for change.

“This network provides a real opportunity to build and sustain the capacity of individuals to push the boundaries of community empowerment and shape local services.” Richard Kramer, Director Connected Care

Why is the Community Leadership Network important?

We know that the future of public services and healthy communities depends on the meaningful involvement and leadership of local people.

Our members want to develop their skills, meet new people, and be inspired to do more in their own communities through learning about what is happening in other projects around the country.

The Network provides ongoing guidance to those who want to be part of improving services in their communities and contains a resource centre to support it’s Community Champions.

All of this is essential to the Community Leadership Network, because all of it helps to drive positive change in communities.

How does the Community Leadership Network support its members?

The Community Leadership Network supports its members’ in the following ways:

• Providing a forum to meet new people and network
• Strengthening skills and building confidence
• Developing practical skills through further training
• Showing members how to take the next steps to making a difference in their local community
• Providing evidence and best practice in community-led initiatives and sharing learning to all members

How does it work?

Being a member of the Community Leadership Network is completely free, and brings many advantages:

• Free training in: running events, attending meetings, setting up groups, extending your influence and more
• Free networking events with other Community Champions
• Free publications
• Free place at our annual conference
• Free access to an online forum to discuss issues and share experiences
• Ongoing support from a team within Turning Point, and all expenses will be paid when travel is required

How did the Community Leadership Network start?

Our work across Connected Care projects in different areas of the country has proven that members of the local community are essential to the design and delivery of successful services.

This led to the development of the Community Leadership Network as it gives us a way to ensure that all Connected Care’s Community Researchers can continue to give a voice to their communities after their Connected Care projects have finished.
