Turning Point responds to launch of adult care funding commission
Commenting on today’s announcement, regarding the creation of a commission on the long-term funding of adult social care, Turning Point’s Director of Learning Disability Services, Adam Penwarden says;
“Turning Point warmly welcomes these first steps towards creating a sustainable care and support system for adults, and the promise to put individuals and their families at its heart.
“As the Health Secretary points out, the number of 85 year olds is due to double between now and 2026 and it is vital we plan for their care. However, the number of adults with learning disabilities is also predicted to increase, resulting in more than a million people with learning disabilities by 2021. For this reason, we particularly welcome the appointment of former Mencap Chief Executive, Dame Jo Williams and her extensive knowledge of the learning disability sector.
“Turning Point looks forward to working with the commission to ensure the needs of those with mental health problems and learning disabilities are met.”
