Turning Point comments on rise in Ketamine problems

Commenting on the Drugscope Drug Trends Survey 2011, released today, which showed Ketamine problems are on the rise, Turning Point’s Director of Substance Misuse Services, John Mallalieu said;

“Turning Point’s own services have experienced almost a 40% increase in Ketamine users over the last three years, so this survey very much reflects what are witnessing on the ground.  It appears that a lack of awareness around potential risks may have contributed to the popularity of this drug, so a big part of the solution must lie in education and getting the right treatment in place.

“Turning Point, has been responsive to this new drug trend by ensuring our staff are equipped with the right specialist knowledge.  This approach is vital if providers are to continue supporting people to lead healthy, drug free lifestyles and overcome these issues.”
