Turning Point comments on BBC 2 Julian Hendy documentary

Commenting on the BBC’s "Why did you kill my dad?" programme which was aired on Monday 1st March, Zelda Peters, Director of Mental Health services for Turning Point said;

"This programme is a brave portrayal of an incredibly tragic case.

"As the documentary maker has himself pointed out, the majority of people with mental health issues never commit acts of violence. We must therefore be careful not to label them as violent on the basis of rare cases such as this one.

"What we must do is ensure that people with mental health issues are accessing services which offer the right intervention, which may be medical and/or psychological treatment. This needs to be in a setting that is appropriate to their need which may be a secure treatment service if deemed necessary."
