Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme (IAPT)

Turning Point welcomes the decision by the Government to roll out the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme (IAPT) more quickly in light of the increasing pressures on many people’s mental health due to the recession.

25% more services than anticipated will be announced this year (81 in total), with £13m of funding brought forward to support this.

Turning Point hopes that the IAPT programme will provide wraparound support for people early on, to prevent their problems escalating and keep them in work.

Turning Point's RightSteps model aims to do just that, and we would like to see the third sector have a wider role in delivering public services for those suffering as a result of the economic downturn.

We hope to see this reflected in Dame Carol Black’s National Strategy for Health and Work, due to be published this year.
