Our work in employment

Our belief
We believe that, in order to treat the needs of our service users, we need to help them in all areas of their life. We aim to help individuals become independent, forward looking people who are not labelled by the social care problem that affects them, but are able to get on with leading as full a life as possible.

Recovering from a drug, alcohol or mental health problem is about more than dealing with that particular problem. To recover fully, people need help in reintegrating back into society. A big part of this is getting back into employment, education or other meaningful activities. Equally, those with a learning disability should have the opportunity to contribute to the community by gaining employment.

Employment and substance misuse
Turning Point is one of the biggest providers of progress2work services in the UK. These services are run in partnership with Jobcentre Plus as a voluntary scheme that helps people get over a drug problem and get a job, or get into education or training. progress2work workers work with people who are recovering from addiction by giving them practical support and advice.

Practical support can include help in:

  • writing a CV
  • attending job interviews
  • setting up a business

as well as issues around that, such as

  • health
  • housing
  • debt problems
